GROUNDED: CERAMICS STUDIO +CAFE +MARKET is a collaborative project with the Edward Kemp Community Garden near Birkenhead Park, providing shared storage for gardening tools and market equipment while improving circulation across the site. As a public hub, it invites people to create, trade, relax, and heal equally through craft. The studio also fosters a symbiotic relationship with the garden: plants and flowers grown on-site can be used in ceramic processes, such as natural dyeing, while handcrafted pottery enhances the garden\u2019s aesthetics as vessels for planting, generating mutual value through creative exchange. Positioned as a park landmark, the studio offers orientation and a welcoming anchor for first-time visitors. The final combined project will be surrounded by the original trees on the site, open to the public but maintaining a certain degree of privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project’s origin was a tour route in Birkenhead, which gradually led me to discover the unknown or the stories that should be known about this area. Birkenhead’s hidden gem lies in its rich legacy of craftsmanship and social equality, rooted in overlooked local arts and inclusive public space. Here, creativity is not a privilege but a right; art becomes a weapon of resistance and healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea of the pottery studio not only responds to the history of Birkenhead but also transforms the originally abandoned tennis court into a small sunken square, gathering the communities around the park and serving as a transitional area from the residential area to the public park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
