StreetPlay is a youth zone based in Toxteth organized around self-organized sports and culture. The idea is to provide a place for the youth where they can explore new sports and hobbies without the typical barriers to entry associated with organized sports such as membership fees. The core driving idea behind choosing sports as the focus of my youth zone is the huge positive benefits they have for physical and mental health as well as the social benefits they provide as well. Basing the project around self-organized sports was the easiest way to make sports accessible to the whole community. The use of bright colored aluminum cladding and playful design makes the building inviting and having the skate park directly accessible at the front of the building removes any barrier to entry.
