Bay Thread Market is a public market and civic space located between Morecambe railway station and the upcoming Eden project. Designed as a main urban route, the project aims to reconnect different parts of the city through movement, culture and ecology. The market is built on the site of a former car park, formed by the historic railway line, now reimagined as a vibrant node in the city’s regeneration programme.

The building design utilises a lightweight steel frame and CLT structure to suit the wet and windy coastal climate. A shared canopy links the buildings together, creating sheltered outdoor spaces for market stalls, performances and informal gatherings. The building layout encourages walking and cycling and attracts residents and visitors through integrated green corridors.

This diagram shows the relationship between the market and the canopy and corridor.

Bay Thread is not only a place of exchange, but also a new interface between tourism and everyday life. By connecting the Eden Project to the railway station, the market becomes a spatial and social hinge – supporting local businesses, promoting cultural identity and contributing to the sustainable regeneration of Morecambe Bay.
