Rise Valley is a youth center project located in the Toxteth community, designed as a dynamic space for connection, exploration, and growth. The project centers around the idea of creating a physical and social “valley” — a tall, narrow double-height climbing space that draws people together, both visually and spatially. Through architectural gestures of height difference, openness, and layered pathways, the project aims to reconnect the community with the adjacent city green path and surrounding gardens, fostering interaction, movement, and shared experience.
The design centers around the concept of a valley, where height difference, openness, and layered spaces come together to generate a continuous flow of activity. The tall, narrow double-height climbing space becomes the project’s central spine, threading through a small urban alley beside the historic Greek Church and extending outward to reconnect with the city’s green path network. This spatial gesture creates a seamless transition from the public street’s greenery, through an active and playful climbing environment, and into a quiet, exclusive garden at the heart of the site. Through these carefully choreographed transitions, Rise Valley aims to offer more than just physical connection — it seeks to foster visual interaction, social engagement, and a sense of collective belonging.
