Amplify is a statement born from the idea of creating a space for self-expression within a historically marginalised community. The project channels the spirit of activism and resistance which is deeply rooted in Toxteth’s identity. This youth-led centre stands on the legacy of those who spoke out against inequality, making it a vibrant hub for modern protest, creativity and change making.
This project came from manifesto research into Liverpool’s cultural resilience, especially the visual language communicated through murals, which documents stories of pride, struggle and community spirit. These powerful, thematic artworks were not just inspiration, but a call to action. Amplify creates a space that not only reflects self-expression, but actively encourages it.

With its raw materiality, translucent and openable facade with protest-inspired visual language, Amplify blurs the boundary between inside and out, between the individual voice and the collective action. Its flexible spaces are designed to adapt to impromptu uses, whether that be speeches, music performances, a protest sign making workshop, or even quiet moments of reflection. The building glows at night, standing proudly as a symbol of hope and energy, inviting youth not just to enter, but to take ownership.
Amplify gives marginalised youths a platform to express themselves boldly, and to challenge the status quo. This civic space powered by creativity, emotion and the belief that through community, dialogue and design, we can shape a better future.
