“La Divina Vernaccia” my final third year project entails the repurposing of a derelict Italian country home in Mulazzo, Tuscany, into a heritage centre. The heritage centre tells the story of the Vernaccia wine, one of the oldest in Italian history, also mentioned in Dante’s “Divine Comedy” which plays a big role in Mulazzo’s history.

The project features a landscaping scheme improving accessibility across site with a series of corten steel ramps and stairs alongside a lift with platforms overlooking the scenery. The current structure will feature a series of exhibition spaces within the existing vaults, telling the story of the Vernaccia through the centuries, and a pre fabricated CLT insertion with an overhang wine bar which will sit on top. The spaces are strategically created to tell a story and create a journey through space and time whilst providing panoramic views over the beautiful Tuscan landscape. The project aims to reinvent Mulazzo into a historic tourist attraction, boosting economy and culture.
