The Wishbone is the second phase of a two-phase project, intended to occupy the empty site neighbouring the former Littlewoods Pools building. Following the Phase 1 East Wing & West Wing, a corporate administrative centre, Phase 2 provides a cultural centre, hotel, restaurant and café; the hotel element is designed to both serve tourists and visiting corporate representatives to the Phase 1 administrative centre, while the café and restaurant are intended to take advantage of the produce from the kitchen garden.

The original project brief calls for a ‘privately funded public forum’, with an additional focus on the use of buildings to create public spaces. Following from this, the site’s environmental strategy is based around water reclamation and reuse between three main spaces: the kitchen garden, botanical garden and public courtyard. These public areas are also secondarily organised with the aim of reducing acoustic interference to the site from Edge Lane.
