Horticultural Living is a residential project that brings new life to the Festival Gardens site by drawing inspiration from its horticultural past. The scheme is built in two phases. The first, developed in term 1, focused on a commercial ground and first floor that included a drinks hall and brewery. Influenced by the industrial heritage of Liverpool and the legacy of Cains Brewery, this phase aimed to create a space where surrounding communities could come together and socialise.

The second and main phase introduces a residential community made up of duplexes and flat units. Each home is designed with direct access to its own shared communal space, encouraging social interaction and a strong sense of belonging. These communal areas carry forward the legacy of the site’s garden history and create a setting where nature plays a role in everyday life. Open shared spaces, natural light, and views of greenery all work together to create a calm and inviting living environment. The design supports a lifestyle that values sustainability, social connection, and wellbeing.
