This project which stretched across both semesters one and two, aimed to make the currently neglected festival gardens site ‘bloom’ again by re-introducing quality wildlife and creative industry. This translated into making the site a space of foraging and sustainable living by extending the wildlife from the botanic gardens into the site making a ‘green belt’ where foraged materials would then be used for the on-site natural dye studio. The site hosts this natural dye process from beginning to end and aims to involve the resident and local community through each step.

Semester one focused on designing this masterplan scheme as well as designing the ‘Phase One’ of my building. Phase one was the ground floor natural dye studio, which functioned as both an industrial and commercial building, interacting with the specifically designed high street stretching along the edge of the site.
This project, Living and Dyeing, is the Phase Two of this building, which involves a further 6 floors of housing on top of the initial natural dye studio from semester one. This project aims to continue encouraging this idea of sustainable living, community, and creativity, which is ingrained in the master plan scheme.
