Nestled in the historic heart of Mulazzo, this visitor centre bridges past and present. Visitors arrive via a gently ascending path that connects to a carefully adapted existing structure, offering a layered journey through local culture and heritage trails. Along this slope, a series of small bothies are integrated into the landscape, each offering a quiet space for reflection, orientation, and rest. These modest volumes create moments of pause where visitors can take in the view, prepare for the trail, and experience the surrounding environment at a slower pace.
The visitor centre acts as a central point that connects a wider network of walking trails. Each route explores a different aspect of Mulazzo’s rich landscape, from its historic core and winemaking traditions to riverside paths and forested slopes. The architecture provides a place of gathering, information, and rest before setting out or returning from these routes, grounding the walking experience in a clear sense of place.

As the path continues upward, the main visitor centre gradually emerges. Constructed with natural materials that respond to the local context, the building offers light-filled interiors and a calm spatial rhythm. Inside, visitors encounter exhibition areas, seating, and information points arranged to support exploration and ease of movement. The architectural language is simple and respectful, with careful attention to proportion, daylight, and views.
At the top of the route, the restored historic structure marks the final point of arrival. Once in a state of disrepair, the building now serves as an extension of the visitor centre, providing a more intimate setting for storytelling and display. Through thoughtful design and sensitive integration, the visitor centre becomes part of the trail itself — a place to pause, to connect, and to begin.
